Warning to local parents after dangerous find at playground

Melville residents have discovered an “infestation” of redback spiders inside children’s playground equipment at Piney Lakes Reserve.
One resident reported finding “redbacks galore” inside play equipment, when she took her child to the Piney Lakes playground on Tuesday.
“I’ve just taken my daughter to Piney Lakes playground, and inside one of the play equipment was redbacks galore,” a post on a Melville City Facebook group site read.
“It’s an igloo-style design and it has holes with coloured glass. There were red backs in nearly every single hole.
The anonymous poster was concerned local children were unwittingly being exposed to the venomous spiders and said the issue had immediately been reported to the City of Melville council.
