Dual Brownlow medallist and Carlton captain Patrick Cripps visited his alma mater last week for a signing and meet and greet, and ended up meeting a Carlton superfan with a generational connection to the club.
Seven-year-old Roland Moore is enrolled in year two at Aquinas College, the same school Cripps boarded and graduated from in 2012, but that isn’t their only connection.
Moore comes from Carlton royalty, as his four times great grandfather Orlando ‘Lanty’ O’Brien was a founding member of the football club, representing Carlton in its first known recorded match against Melbourne Grammar in 1865.
O’Brien also played in the team that won the club’s first trophy in 1871, the South Yarra Presentation Challenge Cup, cementing him as a Carlton legend.
