Apps designed to improve sleep can stress out people with insomnia, research suggests.
While they may help some people, apps tracking sleep may not always give accurate results and can cause worry, experts said.
The use of smartphone apps “has increased significantly” and often rely on sensors embedded in wearable devices such as smartwatches and fitness bands, researchers from Norway wrote in the journal Frontiers In Psychology.
The team said sleep apps generally track the time people go to sleep, how long they sleep for and some have data on the quality of sleep, offering a “sleep score”.
