Perth Zoo shares heartbreaking update about beloved gibbon

Perth Zoo has revealed a white-cheeked gibbon has died shortly after birth, in a heartbreaking message to Zoo members ahead of the opening of a new exhibit at the South Perth venue.
Keepers said the Zoo’s white-cheeked gibbon Jermei went into labour over the weekend, but the baby did not survive.
Gynaecological experts who normally help with human pregnancies performed a caesarean to give the baby the very best chance at surviving.
While the baby had a faint heartbeat on delivery, it died shortly after.
