Warning after baby severely sunburnt on rainy day in Perth
By Lucy Murray
When Courtney Goddard took her 10-week-old out on a rainy day it soon turned into a nightmare when her baby daughter received second degree sunburns.
Ms Goddard was walking with her young bub Lucy strapped in a carrier as the family enjoyed a day at the Kelmscott Agricultural Show two weeks ago.
Walking mostly in the shade on the rainy day, the mum didn’t think Lucy could get burnt but hours later she was rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital with a blistering and peeling face.
Lucy was taken to the burns unit, where the top layers of her skin had to be removed by doctors.
Parents are advised to check the UV rating before taking their kids outside, go outside early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and cover up with loose fitting clothing.
