‘No-brainer’: Dockers star wants Opening Round gone
By Josh Kempton
Caleb Serong has backed in his coach Justin Longmuir’s call to scrap Opening Round and wants all 18 clubs to feature on the first weekend of the season.
But the Fremantle star repeatedly emphasised his coach had not used Geelong’s head-start on the season as an excuse internally for their 10-point loss to the Cats in round one.
After the Dockers surrendered a lead which stood at 35 points early in the second quarter to go down at GMHBA Stadium, Longmuir drew widespread attention by stating his belief the sides who featured in Opening Round had an advantage over those who did not.
Serong was not quite as pointed, but said he failed to understand “why we can’t all be on the same playing field.”
