A proposal that would have seen speed limits slashed across much of Karrinyup is set to be shelved by the City of Stirling after strong community opposition.
The city had been considering an area-wide 40km/h speed zone limit in the area to discourage so-called “rat-running” and speeding through residential streets.
However, following public consultation, in which 66 per cent of 545 respondents opposed the plan, city officers have advised against proceeding with the changes.
In a report, city officers said those not in support had described the proposal as “unnecessary and too slow”, and said “speed was not the problem” for the area’s traffic issues.
