John Carey has pointed the finger at local councils and some residents over Perth’s scarce tree canopy.
The Planning Minister put his own green thumb skills on display when he joined children at Kyilla Primary School in North Perth for a tree planting on Thursday and opened a $10 million program of “Let’s Grow” grants for schools and community groups.
The State Government has set a target to increase Perth’s tree canopy to 30 per cent by 2040, after it fell as low as 16 per cent.
“Tree canopy cools our streets. It makes our neighbourhoods more liveable,” he said.
