Perth shoppers have made a frenzied final dash to fulfil their Christmas wish list, as food becomes the last-minute priority for households hoping to pull off that perfect festive family day.
With just hours until the clock ticks over to December 25, retail experts say the focus has shifted from gifts to food as shoppers pack supermarkets to buy ham, meat, sausages, vegetables, fresh seafood and alcohol.
“There’s some last-minute gift purchasing taking place but at this late stage, most gifts are wrapped and sitting underneath the tree,” Australia’s leading retail expert Gary Mortimer said.
“Anything that was purchased online has hopefully been delivered and now the focus is into food.”
