American Researchers found 17 out of 20 urine samples confirmed alcohol consumption, likely from fermented fruit, in African chimpanzees’ diet.
And Aleksey Maro and Professor Robert Dudley, from the University of California, Berkley, found that the amount of fermented fruit chimpanzees eat in the wild contains enough alcohol for two glasses of wine.
Mr. Maro - who collected urine samples for 11 days in Kibale National Park, Uganda - said: “We find widespread physiological evidence of the consumption of alcohol by chimpanzees."
