Balcatta Recycling Centre set for $16 million expansion

By Likam Murphy

With much of the facility having reached the end of its functional life, the City of Stirling has given the green light to a $16 million plan to modernise the Balcatta Recycling Centre.

Council recently accepted a tender for the design and construction of a major refurbishment to the facility.

The centre, which opened in 1979, offers services for the disposal of recyclables, green waste, car tyres, household hazardous waste and general waste.

Upgrades are expected to make trips faster and safer by separating residential and commercial traffic. As part of the renovation, a fully enclosed waste transfer shed will be built to double capacity.
